Advocacy Day
The Power of Second Chances

Raise Your Voice
We center those most affected by the justice system in everything we do.

Statewide Solidarity
We reject narratives that devalue people because of past mistakes.

Centering Lived Experience
Those most impacted by the justice system lead this movement. Their stories guide our priorities and shift how policy is made.

We’re Not Just Showing Up — We’re Organizing
Second Chance Advocacy Day is not a moment; it’s a movement. It’s how we build momentum for lasting reform and dignity for every North Carolinian.

Stories that Move Policy
Our voices carry weight. Storytelling during Advocacy Day helps humanize issues and influences decisions at the legislative level.

Fighting for Change
We advocate for smarter laws:
- Expanding expungement access
- Ending debt-based license suspensions
- Stopping the misuse of mugshots

The Second Chance Act
A Victory for Criminal Record Relief
SB 562, also known as The Second Chance Act,
is a North Carolina law designed to expand access to criminal record relief for individuals with nonviolent charges. This legislation allows certain charges to be expunged automatically and streamlines the process for people seeking a second chance at employment, housing, and opportunity.
The Second Chance Act is a direct result of the voices and efforts of thousands of advocates, community members, and justice-impacted individuals who came together to urge lawmakers to remove barriers and build a more equitable system.
